An effective way to reduce your cost of travel is by sharing the cost through car-pooling or ride sharing. First fashionable in the oil-shock 70's, rideshare is back as a social and practical way to reduce travel costs when travelling by car.

If you want to share fuel costs, here is a guide to how much petrol vehicles use, according to their size. The actual costs will vary according to fuel price and how well you drive.

  • In a small car (e.g., Holden Barina, Mazda 121, Honda Civic) you can expect to use 7 to 8 litres of petrol per 100 km driving in the city.
