What is goSmarter?
Each day, we can all spend a significant amount of time travelling, from
our homes to work, school, the shops and many other destinations. With a
little forward planning we can reduce the amount of travel we do for our
regular, everyday trips. Even better, we could save ourselves time and money
if we travel smarter.
Go Smarter is about making the time (and money) you spend on travel more
economical. You can do this by simply thinking about your daily and weekly
needs and planning ahead. It’s also about putting the real cost of travel in
perspective. It might be quicker to drive than walk to the corner store but
it costs more to run your car and, unlike walking, it doesn't do anything
for your health or fitness. When you add up the costs of these trips it can
amount to quite a few dollars you could have saved.
Could that journey have been made on foot or by cycle for no cost other
than a bit of exercise? You might even bump into your neighbour and catch up
on the local news or just be around to keep a watchful eye on your
community. With fewer cars being driven on our streets and more social
interaction, our communities become safer, calmer, more liveable places with
less pollution.
This isn't wishful thinking or even a great scientific break-through;
it’s just common sense.
Go Smarter is here to help you plan ahead, to offer advice, encouragement
and support - then it’s entirely up to you. If everyone makes small changes
in their travel, collectively we can make a big difference to the
ever-increasing traffic congestion on our roads. Think about what travelling
to work during the school holidays is like when peak hour traffic is much
reduced. Imagine if we could reduce traffic congestion to that level
everyday. This enables us to make better use of our existing transport
infrastructure and work towards a more sustainable and better quality of
life. |
